The era of the Trekboer and Voortrekker is commemorated with this sculpture. It was the era when wagon transport was the only way to travel with stock through the countryside, where the benefit of roads was non-existent. The front oxen were trained to lead the span and their competence was imperative for successful transportation. They were named and acknowledged for their individual personalities and their owners highly valued them.
