The Egyptian Waterseller, 2015

An Egyptian girl is sitting on the ruins of an old monument, selling water in amphorae to traders and caravans on an overland route between Egypt and other destinations. The site of this forgotten monument was chosen to create a water depot in the desert between oases, because it offers shade and shelter against the wind.

The brooding faces of the monument are staring into the four corners of the world, suggesting a mystic wisdom and contemplative consciousness harboured within the stone. The viewer becomes aware of the concept of eternity, as if time is standing still.
